PRACTICE MAKES ONE PERFECT
There is always this perception by folks that superstars are naturally born with the talent they bore. Have we asked ourselves what it takes to become an all-time superstar? Well, I learned from a recent article I read about Madonna and the William sisters that it took them 10,000 hrs. of practice to become experts in the world of music and tennis.
From their stories my biggest takeout was;
Self–discipline: It’s being determined, focused, and motivated to realize our personal goals. Madonna was ready to develop a number of activities through records, concerts, music, videos, movies, books, and charity events which unified her dedication to an ultimately single goal for the quest for superstar status. She also sleeps for a certain number of hours each night and takes charge of everything she does and the outcome.
Williams’s sisters demonstrated this through their dad who worked on developing the girls’ commitment, attitude, and psychological resilience to develop them as winners. Apart from nurturing their talents in tennis, he inspired them to be champions in art, education, and in designing their clothes.
Self–discipline is one aspect that I‘d apply in my daily lifestyle. It’ll enable me to create a habit of getting things done like committing myself to accomplish my important goals in life. It would mean having the ability to start projects and finish them to the end.
Value of visions:
A vision is described as a picture of the result one wants to attain which is obvious and powerful to assist one make that result real. A vision isn’t a vague wish or dream or hope. It’s an image of the important results of real efforts. It creates energy and may cause change to happen.
Visions are meant to inspire action and pull in ideas, people, and other resources. It motivates individuals and organizations to commit, to persist, and to give their best. Moreover, they’re practical guides for creating plans, setting goals and objectives, making decisions, and coordinating the work on any project.
From the story of Madonna and the Williams sisters, it was quite evident that they both had transparent visions of becoming world superstars by putting in countless efforts. In both cases, they had clear visions at a tender age of who they would want to become. Madonna wanted to be a world-renowned musician while the Williams girls through the coaching of their dad knew they would become female superstars in tennis. The beauty of growing up while knowing what we would like, enables us to make better choices and decisions in life without confusion.
My vision is to have a career that incorporates constant learning, and improvement for myself, and create an atmosphere of pleasurable learning and improvement for others. By having a personal vision I‘ll be able to influence different aspects of my life such as family, spiritual growth, financial investment goals, physical well-being, leisure, and work. In the next 3 years, I would want to consider the following:
- Financial Management
I want to work in the field of Financial Management to reinforce my growth in this industry. This would mean going back to college to pursue Finance to reinforce my knowledge and skills. I will use the knowledge acquired to apply it to my day-to-day work. Small and medium Enterprises (SMEs) form a bigger part of our country in terms of adding value to our economy. Due to this, I have dreamt of helping small upcoming businesses to organize and handle their books of accounts in future.
2. Hydroponic Farming
Growing up in the village with my grandmother was enjoyable. The environment in the village was different from that of the city. There was no traffic caused by vehicles and the air was cool with the chilling sounds of birds in the morning. During school holidays, I would wake up and accompany my grandparents to tend to their farm. They valued agriculture but weren’t willing to adopt modern techniques of farming. This often bothered me while growing up. I always asked myself what else I could do better in future.
Over the years, I developed a passion for agriculture based on my experience in the village. I’d like to venture into hydroponic farming in the future. It’s a modern type of farming whereby plants aren’t grown in soil, but rather in trays through a continuous flow of nutrient solution.
I am attracted to the crop unit because I can use it at home as a vegetable garden. This technique requires minimal space, hence convenient for many people living in urban areas who aren’t able to access farms daily. Besides this, the crop unit method under hydroponics farming enables a person to intercrop vegetables i.e. they can be vertically done in two lines where one is in a position to: plant various crops aside from vegetables like strawberries, capsicum, and spring onions among others. I intend to target various schools in urban areas to encourage healthy eating food programs in their schools. I would train them on the benefits of implementing hydroponic farming.
As an individual, I will conduct research and explore the available opportunities in hydroponic farming. It would mean joining an institution that trains various farmers in hydroponic farming and interviewing a few youths who are already exploring this. An example is the Miramar International College located along Waiyaki Way, Kikuyu.
3. Financial Investment Goal
My financial goal is to save and invest in the world of Shares, Saccos, and Money Market. I have thought of doing so because they have better returns on interest rates compared to what banks offer their clients. In the next 3 years, I intend to join Zimele Money Market, Law Society of Kenya Sacco, and Safaricom shares.
However, there are limitations for me not achieving my vision due to lack of enough capital to venture into farming. The imagination and thought that one has to start big to be a successful farmer. In addition, approaching small upcoming medium enterprises and convincing them of the importance of organizing their books of accounts would be an uphill task. This is mainly because they are start-ups and won’t see the need to organize their books of accounts.
I will overcome some of this by starting small with the little I have while venturing into farming. For small and medium enterprises, I will create an online platform where I’ll train them on the importance of bookkeeping and how it will benefit them. Coming up with a reliable accounting system that they can implement and develop.
