More and often practice makes one perfect towards what they do, be it cooking, sports and at the work place. This is one of the principle I believe in. For one to have an in-depth knowledge of their work, they have to continuously learn new skills to distinguish themselves with starters. Ladies and Gentlemen my top 3 skills that have played a key role in building my role in administration are outlined below:

  1. Basic Bookkeeping

It is the method of recording business transactions to produce a set of accounting records. Bookkeeping is the start of an accounting process which allows one to produce useful accounting information about sales, expenses, assets, liabilities and equity.

I have been able to demonstrate this at my workplace by helping the organization with accounting for their monthly expenses, drafting scholarship students’ budgets, filling of NHIF, NSSF and filing of receipts.

2. Basic Data Entry

It is the process of transcribing information into an electronic medium like a computer or other device. It can either be performed manually or automatically by employing a machine or computer. An example of where I have demonstrated this is at my place of work. I have managed to key in data into spread sheets from surveys collected from the field by the Field Officer from Western, Nairobi, Coast and Homabay region.

3. Communication skills

This is the ability to convey information to another effectively and efficiently. The skills include good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills. I facilitate sharing of information to my colleagues at my place of work. I also use this at my work place while calling students, their guardians and parents via phone. I use the feedback from students to update their master sheets, key in records through a spread sheet and writing reports under the Sponsorship Program.
